About Me

Rose Christensen is a recent University of Washington, Seattle graduate in Masters in Library and Science with a BA in History from the University of Washington ,Tacoma. She is passionate about research, and the preservation of community and culture in various ways such as through language and clothing. She has spent many years dedicated to this pursuit from local volunteering at museums to a writing research papers.

She research’s and reconstructs historical garments with the facilitation of methods of dress construction to time period’s of her study’s to further her understanding of the communities she studies in her spare time. This research can be quite intense and delves into sewing techniques, the types of fabric and weave that would be used to the research of societal implications of the clothing. She has spent half a decade dedicated to studying and expanding what we know of Queer History from the 19th century and prior. Her focus is towards researching social aspects of history to better understand our current world while shedding light on historical community's that have not had the largest spotlight.

Rose has done work in the GLAM field for several years working at the UW Tacoma Library in their Makerspace and teaching peers about sewing and mending their clothes and helping them in projects teaching students how to not only use the tools the space provides but also by building community with other peers. She has done events such as a mending station for the University’s Earth day and Sewing and Zine Workshops. She also worked as student Reference Specialist at UWT and learned many valuable skills with her time there from creating LibGuides to working with Live Chat. She has also spent four years volunteering at the Harbor History Museum in the museums collections and has specialized in working with the museums garments in their collection.

In her free time she helps facilitate games with her local game store such as with DMing a games like Good Society and Dungeons & Dragons. Rose also enjoys going on local hikes and bird-watching around the Washington Area.
